This time: Unity State!

Dear Friends,
How are you?… Hope everything is fine!
This time our journey was to Unity state, Southern Sudan (You know,
there are 10 states in Southern Sudan & I was lucky to cover 3 states – Upper Nile, Jonglei & Unity states). We went to conduct several
workshops in Pariang, Guet & Koch counties.

The trip was fun & challenging because we had to fly from Malakal town, Upper Nile state to Rubkona county, Unity state & then from Rubkona we went to those counties by road. The road was rough, dry & dusty because there was no asphal road & swamp was everywhere. Unity state is rich with oil & it is a big ‘national treasure’ for people of Sudan.

Pariang county was a busy county. There was no guest house though
therefore we had to stay overnight with the community. Guet county was
a new county & now they are trying to demarcate their border from
Rubkona county. As for Koch county, they are starting to develop &
people are producing bricks in order to build some buildings. It was
nice to see them trying to move forward.

UNICEF was supporting the
local school by donating books & furniture. We were hosted by County
Commissioner for a night & according to Sudanese it was a great honour
for visitors to be accommodated at the house of the County Chief!

Enjoy the rest of the snap shots per below:

On the way back to Rubkona we visited Nyaroup Port (White Nile river)
which was 45 minutes from Koch county. This port is one of main
‘gateway’ for local people to go to Malakal & Juba for tradings.

Now I’m back to Malakal (& very tired!) but I feel happy to know that
I can do something for people of Sudan. Also, I have great opportunity
to go around the country, experience to live with the people & learn
their local customs!

Good night everybody…and hope to read your thoughts on the comments’ link below. :-)
