Irene Sirait
Irene Sirait has begun developing with career in the humanitarian field since 1990s. Started as a research assistant at a State University at the Division of Reproductive Health while still finishing her study at the faculty of Pschycology at Universitas Indonesia. Her extensive exposure at this research facility established links between reproductive health and the behavour of younger generation live in remote areas in Indonesia’s interior regions. In 1995, Irene began handling HIV/AIDS issues through her appointment at a local NGO based in Jakarta, the first NGO that provided walk-in counseling service on HIV/AIDS cases, apart from the on-going telephone hotline counseling. She began taking charge by actively serving as care-provider over the hotline service, delivering counseling service apart from being the member in the advocating team. From then on she began further with her passion as a humanitarian worker. In 1998, granted a fellowship by the Australian Government relating to HIV/AIDS studies in Melbourne University, Australia, and on 2002, awarded another scholarship from the Foreign Ministry of Israel for the health system management in Israel.
Upon her return to home country, to early February 2010 continue to serve in the field of humanitarian field at one of the Natural Gas mining company in remote regions of West Papua. Her role at various international humanitarian organization including United Nations’ agencies, have given her several provinces to cover, namely from western part of Indonesia: Aceh & Nias all the way to the east; Kupang, Flores, Maumere, Buton Island in Sulawesi Tenggara and up to Far eastern of Indonesia; remote regions of Asmat tribe in Papua, Cape Bintuni in further remote of West Papua.
Beginning end February 2010, Irene embarked to a new journey, by joining an International humanitarian Organization, with headquarters based in France as Program Manager on HIV/AIDS covering 2 countries; Somaliland and Puntland in East Africa as Acting Country Coordinator.
